Why Cuomo belongs in jail

I posted this over here, in response to the post and this argument:

If Cuomo broke positive law by retaliating against women who had lodged complaints about his behavior, then those retaliation-related allegations (if true) could supply a good basis for impeachment. The COVID19 allegations are entirely different. If Cuomo chose poorly (as we now understand it) in sending elderly patients with COVID19 into nursing homes, but did so acting on the information before him and for disinterested ends (i.e., in the narrow sense of not taking any bribes), then that is a reason for voters (if they so choose) to boot him out of office, but not for the legislature to impeach. Otherwise, you are converting impeachment into an ongoing legislative vote of no confidence.

As my comment still hasn't escaped moderation, I'm posting it here:

And if unicorns exist we can all fly for free.

Unicorns don't exist, and Cuomo acted in contradiction to the information before him, and did so as a payoff to the people who had given him money at a critical juncture during his race for Governor.

By the time Cuomo gave his murderous order, it was well understand that the elderly were the ones most at risk from Covid.  The order wasn't given to "save hospital beds for the serious patients", it was given to get seniors and their low Medicare reimbursement rates out of the hospitals that wanted to use those beds for higher paying patients.  As the hospital executives had been a large source of funds for Cuomo's campaign at a critical juncture, he gave them what they wanted, rather than what all teh evidence then known said he should do.

There was never the slightest justification for sticking people who were contagious with a disease that preferentially killed the elderly, back in places where there were large concentrations of the elderly.

You found 5 justifications for Buchanan's lack of action.  But you can not find any justifications for Cuomo's.  "They thought they'd need the beds"?  Then you create an order saying that a hospital filled to capacity may send certain people to an "overflow" place.  You don't preemptively move them before the bed space problem becomes dire.

And, as the bed space problem never DID become dire, the policy that's the closest to Cuomo's but actually even remotely justifiable, would have led to none of the deaths that Cuomo's did.

He should have been impeached.  He should be tried and convicted.  And he shoudl spend the rest of his life in jail
